Ceremonial Ponchos

US$900.00

The sustainable wool fibers used to make this ceremonial poncho come from the sheep of Q’eros raised with love and shorn with care by the Q’ero. The fiber is handspun with prayers and ceremony in each step of the process, so that each poncho is infused with special intentions and specific ancestral designs. These supremely colorful ponchos with complex designs in reds, pinks, oranges, can take 6 months or up to one year to complete.

These are worn for community ceremonial celebrations or by a Paqo performing a ceremony or healing. Each design detail is different, making each piece a unique work of weaving art. The cochineal, a tiny insect that lives in the jungle cactus, has been used since time immemorial by the Q’ero to produce over 26 shades of red. All natural dies and natural Alpaca colors are used in the making of this poncho. No alpacas are killed for the purpose of making this product.

MATERIAL: 100% Alpaca fibre, handmade in Peru
